Dr. Augenbraun is Professor of Medicine in the College of Medicine as well as a Professor of Epidemiology in the School of Public Health. He is currently the Director of the Division of Infectious Diseases at both SUNY DS HSU as well as Kings County Hospital Center and Vice Chair for Administration of the Department of Medicine at Downstate. He completed both undergraduate and medical school education at the University of Rochester and his residency training at North Shore University Hospital. Fellowship training in infectious diseases was completed at SUNY Downstate.

For many years now, Dr. Augenbraun has also served as the Hospital Epidemiologist at University Hospital at Downstate. Dr. Augenbraun's primary focus of clinical and research interest has long been sexually transmitted infections as well as other genitourinary tract conditions. He has been involved in HIV care and research for most of his career. He has served on a consultative and advisory capacity to the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene, the NYS DOH as well as the CDC. He is the author or coauthor of well over 100 references in the medical literature and has been the recipient of two SUNY Chancellor's awards.
