The Surgical Pathology Laboratory provides
- Routine surgical & biopsy procedures
- Tissue Histology – Processing, Embedding (paraffin blocks) Microtomy, (cutting of paraffin sections) Staining slides , Distributing slides - Pathologists
- Special Staining
- All special stains, IF Staining, Renal Transplant / Native kidney test
- Autopsy Pathology
- New York State law requires that the medical staff attempt to get permission for autopsy in all cases of unusual deaths and deaths of medical-legal and educational value. Recommendations of cases in which autopsy should be requested are provided to all hospital physicians.
- Research Involving Pathology
- Encourage and support approved biomedical research involving pathology observations and methods, e.g. immunohistochemistry.

Transport and Delivery
Mon – Fri, 8:00 AM to 6:00 PM
- All Specimens are to be delivered to room A2-469 and placed on the Accessioning Table. Only Specimens will be accessioned and processed. Placentas delivered for disposal only should be marked as “Non-Specimens” and not accessioned.
Mon – Fri, 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM
- All Specimens are delivered to room A2-428 (alcove) and placed in the Specimen Refrigerator. Only Specimens will be accessioned and processed.
Sat – Sun, and Holidays
- All Specimens are delivered to room A2-428 (alcove) and placed in the Specimen Refrigerator.
